Good points -- somewhere I heard that carrying in the small of your back isn't recommended though, in case you fall or have an accident. If that happens your pistol could really injure your back.

I also remember hearing that instead of informing the officer you have a "weapon" or "gun", to simply hand over your CCW permit at the same time as your license. (But this depends on what state you live in, too.)

Then again, when they run your plates (assuming you're the owner) or license, the dispatcher or officer should see it flagged that you're a CCW permit holder anyway.
