I saw an EDC rig once that was configured just like a shoulder holster.
I heard a story where some guy was in the wrong place at the wrong time, was asked for ID by a policeman, and when the guy went for his wallet, which he kept in his holster, the cop shot him. The guy eventually died from the injury. This sounded like an urban legend, but I was unable to confirm it.
While I love the concept, I don't relish the thought of getting shot by an overzealous police officer, especially now with subway searches and shoot-to-kill orders begin issued to armed (!) bobbies.
I think I'll stick with my shoulder bag. Odd bulges underneath one's clothes could prove highly inconvenient these days, not to mention injurious or even fatal.

When asked for ID bvy the Police it's always a good idea to say something like " Yes officer, my licence is in my wallet in the outside pocket of my waist pack (or whatever the case is). That way the cop has an idea ahead of time of where your'e reaching and can stop you if there's a problem.

You know, one of the most popular places to carry concealed is in an under the pant holster clipped to your belt in the small of your back. When I used to keep my wallet in my back pocket, this created a bit of a problem. One time when I got stopped for speeding and had to produce my wallet, I had to think about what I was doing. I kept both hands on the steering wheel, and in a soft but audible voice I told the officer that I had a concealed carry permit. He got the message pretty quick but still unsnapped the retaining strap on his holster. We then went through the drill together, and I disarmed as instructed and presented my license shortly thereafter. I got off with a warning, and I could tell the man was just as nervous as I was, but he told me I handled the situation okay.
Any cop that draws down on someone who is trying to retrieve their ID as requested deserves to have the book thrown at them at least. They do not belong in the uniform if they pull a stupid stunt like that, and I would lose my respect for them pretty darned quick. It is one thing for someone to be reaching under their coat unsolicited, but to have a cop react like that after issuing the order tells me he wasn't mentally prepared and could not think fast enough to control himself. All he had to do was tell the guy "don't move" . Instead he pulls his weapon and plugs the poor sod???!!!! Unless there's more to this story, that just don't wash.

Good points -- somewhere I heard that carrying in the small of your back isn't recommended though, in case you fall or have an accident. If that happens your pistol could really injure your back. I also remember hearing that instead of informing the officer you have a "weapon" or "gun", to simply hand over your CCW permit at the same time as your license. (But this depends on what state you live in, too.) Then again, when they run your plates (assuming you're the owner) or license, the dispatcher or officer should see it flagged that you're a CCW permit holder anyway. Also, www.packing.org has some good state-by-state information. But I digress, I'm certainly no expert. Maybe Sgt. Mike or someone else has something to add...

That's a really good idea. My only regret is I didn't think of it first! <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
