My Bushcraft Firepiston arrived yesterday from Jeff Wagner—Wilderness Solutions. It works very very smoothly and produced coals nearly every stroke using tinder fungus.

The little cylinder is a removable ring that you insert to allow a lanyard carry....this will get a braided kangaroo loop and cord this weekend.

Very nice cocobolo, with a tinder cavity in the handpiece.

(I lit this with my Streamlight white LED…therefore the blue cast)

More fun ahead…..

So, you're out there all the time, and I know you've got at least 3 kinds of fire on you all the time -- is this elegant little thing going to be one of your favorites?

I originally was more interested in these as a novel, fun and unique firestarter...but the more I use it the more I think it may end up being called upon as one of my favorite alternatives to a match or firesteel.

I can see advantages in high wind were a match is difficult but an ember in a tinder nest works best.

Time really will tell, however right now I can say it is a finely made tool with very high reliability...better than some lighters I own.
