Assuming you are referring to the black blades, we are working on the final issues to get them into production and hope to have them available for holiday season. That's all I can really say at this time.

Hey Doug,

Any chance we could get a version of the RSK and Mini-RSK in ZDP-189 steel? :-)

I would expect that to be highly unlikely. OTOH, stranger things have happened. <g> So far Hitachi is only allowing fabrication of blades with that steel in Japan. That severely limits what can be done in that steel.

Bummer. I guess I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks for listening!

John,

Have there been any fieldtests of ZDP-189 in a folder yet? I know everyone loves the Spyderco Calpyso Jr -- "so sharp, the hair on my arm runs away before I have a chance to shave it" -- but I haven't heard of anyone really abusing the steel yet. I'd like to hear it survives real-world use outside of cutting cardboard, e.g., batoning, etc. I'm really curious whether it will chip.

Not sure. However, one of the big advantages of this steel are supposedly the ability to resist chipping, even when run hard. On the other hand, I haven't seen any real abuse tests so it's hard to know if it lives up to the claims.

I guess time will tell. Hopefully we'll see this steel used more so we can get more exposure.
