I have had some problems with button's on my BDU pants coming off .Maybe because I am getting old and fat,but the cotton string seems to break always at worst possible time...So I found some Spectra line at my local fishing store and used a large carpet type needle and sewed all my buttons on with this stuff, Got to tell you they are forever now....Pants will go before buttons will....Anyone else try this ...???

I love sewing with fishing line. I think it is way better than thread.

I use dental floss to resew buttons and just like Spectra lasts longer then the pants.

Spectra line is as good as dacron, except it has a low melting point, and knots will weaken it by at least 60%. Dacron doesn't last as long in storage, but I can replace my dacron once every five years and be happy. Dacron is also a little less expensive.

I had this conversation with somebody who knows, and her answer made sense.

Match thread to fabric. Kevlar will cut the fabric before it will yield. If you are working with very heavy nylon cordura-type materials, fine. Otherwise it is overkill.
