Just curious..................

Why do you want to disassemble it?
Would that void the warranty?
Screws may be factory installed with LocTite which makes the screws hard but not impossible to remove. If they don't want to move, as a last resort, try turning clockwise. They may be left hand threads although this is unlikely.
Do the Torx screws have a little post sticking up in the center of the hole? If so, you will need a security Torx tool which has a hole in the center to accept the post. Think male/female situation.

Info from Doug's "Leatherman Waves, then Charges" article on the ETS home page:

"Leatherman continues to use TORX-PLUSŪ tamper-resistant fasteners to secure the blades and tools on the Wave and Charge. They remain opposed to allowing owners to easily adjust the pivot tension and we have received occasional reports of misadjusted tools which require return to the factory to be fixed or replaced under warranty. We remain opposed to this philosophy, preferring that they'd make it easy for users to adjust this on their own, but that's the way it is. You can, with some effort, expense and a little white lie gain access to the bit required to fit these screws. Of course, doing so voids the warranty. Word to the wise and all that."

I have the new Wave and it does have the tamper resistent screws but they're not normal Torx heads. The Torx that I've seen are six pointed while these are five pointed? Paul

They are Torx Plus security bits, a bit harder to find, but your local Snap On guy should have them or be able to order them. They are often used in automotive applications.

It is always easier to take apart than to put back together.

This from an experienced radio tech/gizmo destroyer.

ProGunOne,

I have looked all over for the 5 pointed Torx security bit. My wife's Generation 1 Wave has blades that are too tight. I just want to loosen the tension a little.

Craig, you can get them but they're expensive.

Item# TTXR10TPE2

Chances are, you'll need two of them. That puts the total at about $36 for them delivered, but you can save $10 if you can find a local Snap-on guy.

Well, yes, sure -- but it then fall apart. Have you tried stropping compound or something similar if you just want it looser?
