Attaching ACR Signal Whistle to keyring or lanyard

I'm looking for a good way of attaching an ACR Signal Whistle to other gear. The lanyard/keyring hole provided for this to be accomplished is very narrow, straight, and a bit long (traversing the whistle through its width). Nothing I have except for a bit of aircraft cable will fit through it, and I don't like the way the cable is working with it. Any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated. I am flummoxed (for the moment, anyway). -- Craig

Have you tried gutted para cord? Pass a loop of fishing line throught the hole in the whistel, put the gutted para cord through the loop, and pull it through. Or, 3mm accessory cord. Or, a drill.

I thought of that. That should work, but this whistle isn't new. Someone must have found a better way by now.

How about a thin leather or webbing fob with a grommet for the keyring?

It to me that these whistles: Whistle Use a Fastex snap ring. I would think if you used a Fastex snap ring with a “D” you could cut the “D” and get to slide into the holes of the whistle. D Ring or Snap Ring Pete

Use a small zip tie.
3mm accessory cord will work perfectly, too.
Also, if the current version is like mine, you'll note that one side has a small slot & indentation above the transverse lanyard hole. This is so you can thread the cord through the hole, tie a knot, then pull back & jam the knot into the niche both to hold the knot, & protect it.

Craig, Get a good whistle, get a Fox 40 Mirco. It is the one in the Ritter PSP.

I have some cord, slightly thicker than what comes with it, that fits through the slit well. I attatch it to my neck knife sheath with a bit of inner tube, however.

Where is that pic from? I'm looking for a good source ($$) for these and hadn't seen them offered in such multi-colored diversity.

From Here. In Firefox, at least, you can right-click on an image and select "Properties" to see the URL.

Craig, if I may suggest, try braided nylon fishing line. I think it runs about 8-10 bucks a spool at Gander Mtn. Give it a shot and let me know. Bart

ACR is a very good whistle and IIRC it is louder than the Fox40 Micros, though not as loud as the Fox40 Minis. This has been discussed here before and test results posted... I just can't seem to find the thread.

Has anyone tried the Pearl from Fox40?
They say it is a lower pitch. Lower pitches carry better, but is it enough to make a difference?

They say it is a lower pitch. Lower pitches carry better, but is it enough to make a difference? The Classic can hit 115db while the Pearl only goes up to 90db, dont know if the lower pitch is worth the trade off.

I've been a soccer referee for awhile and have had a lot of experience with whistles. Any Fox whistle is a great whistle. The lower pitch really saves the ears after hours of blowing. With a Fox 40 or Fox 40 mini after the first 1 or 2 really good blows my ears were ringing and after a day of refereeing I was almost deaf. With the Pearl you could go forever with little hearing impairment. I think the lower pitch of the pearl would allow you to signal for help and still hear a reply. The Pearl is also much more noticeable from a much greater distance IMO. A few have disagreed with me and side I was backwards. So it might depend on the person listening. This is just my 2 cents.

I work part time at a local park and have been playing around with whistles every summer for the past three years. I've noticed that younger people tend to respond more readily to the higher pitched whistles like the Fox 40 and that adults (age 25+) tend to resond better to seemingly lower pitched whistles like the Acme Tornado...

I have that one, actually. I have the kit! Isn't it called the Howler?
Anyway, I bought this other whistle because I was intrigued by its flat profile. Very pocket friendly.
It just doesn't seem to automatically slide onto one's keychain.

Alright! A dog whistle for kids. If they are being bad just blow your Fox 40.

No joke! With all the messing around I've done with survival whistles, my daughter has adapted a kind of ongoing joke where when I blow a whistle, no matter where she is or what she is doing, she'll immediatly stop and come running to me in a pretend state of excitement (like a dog who thinks he'll get a treat).
Hey, whatever works to get their attention.

Heh. I'm starting to do use my Fox40 with my Dog! She's so well behaved that I don't use a leash on walks. I let her run in the woods as a reward at the end of a walk. She comes back when I call, but only if she can hear me. So I'm training her that the whistle means the same as "come", figuring that will penetrate further.
