I tested the magnesium block fire starters. I was very disappointed. The block dulls my knife, it is hard to get a quarter size pile of shavings, the wind blows the shavings away, and the flame last for only a second or two. If you have good tinder the magnesium will get it started. Treated cotton balls or fat wood is so much better.
