The Wallace Guidebook

How good would you say this is? Which book, of all the ones available, would the one ETS recommends as being the most applicable to most conditions a survivor might reasonable encounter?

I'm trying to carry just one, as opposed to the [I decline to say how many I actually carry on the grounds it will definitely incriminate me as a wussie ] I carry now.

Give people a chance. They're probably still asleep.

I've had posts go un-replied-to for a week. Then everyone jumps in at once.

I don't think it's anything like this, but that's what pops into my head:

This Wallace's idea of survival preparation: "Don't forget the cheese, Gromit!"

A survival book I stumbled across. That's all.

From the description, it sounds like a standard First Aid reference with a couple of survival tips thrown in, rather than a survival manual. I'd probably pass on it. (Though it is pretty cheap.)

My personal preference still is the Collins Gem edition of Lofty Wiseman's SAS Survival Guide; not only is it one of the cheapest, it actually fits in a shirt pocket and so can be carried on you even when you're wearing a suit. (Except that my fiancee insists that you can't carry anything but a pen in the pocket of a dress shirt. )

aardwolfe,

Depends which pocket you're referring to. Also, that's what shoulder bags are for.

YMMV, but in general I find very few "pocket books" fit in a pocket.

I don't wear a shoulder bag when I'm driving or flying; I do (usually) wear a shirt.
