i just got a cold steel mini gurka light kukri and i love it, but, i would like to be able to carry it on my left side so i have resorted to taking the protective liner out of the leather case and sewing it into a nylon one that i plan to make. now the woman is saying that she needs a heavier duty sewing machine to do it, but i just think she's trying to get me to buy her one, so i need to know, and also if i decide to do it by hand, what kind of needle do i need, she's mad at me now so she won't tell me!

Working that weight of nylon requires a sail makers/rigger's machine. Your average seamstress wouldn't have it in her shop. <br><br>It uses a stronger thrust, so there is less cutting of the threads, or so I've been told. I do know that you need a thicker needle if it's to be done on machine, and those aren't something you can find in Wallyworld.<br><br>While you can do it by hand, or on a regular machine, I <br>wouldn't trust the sheath.

I used to get a lot of heavy duty sewing done, usually for free, at a local upholstery shop. Another place was a fire station, which happened to have a heavy duty machine for making hose covers, etc., and would do work for me (being in a B&W car might have helped a little there)...
