I've been assembling several pocket kits for gifts.I wanted to include a basic knife and dreaded the expense.I returned to the Puuko of my own first assemblage.www.ragweedforge.com carries a Swedish made Mora #33;4" with halfguard in S/S (very sharp!)@only $16. He gives excellent service also. For the same price I added an Ulu from www.theULUfactory.com for a friend enroute to Alaska.

I want to try a Mora knife, I have heard they good. Speaking of knives, does anyone on this forum have an opinion on the Becker companion made by Camilus ?
Ranger

The older I get, The better I was.

The Cold Steel Bushman is a fantastic low cost knife, if not a bit large. The CRKT MDP Stiff Kiss is also fantastic, I have purchased them for under $20. As for folders, the Gerber Gator and Gator Mate are fine knives as is The US pocket knife by Camillus. I always look to CRKT for low cost high quality knives, they can really turn 'em out. Search the web well to find the best prices, they vary widely.

The Moras are incredibly sharp, the S/S perhaps even better(they are harder to sharpen but not impossible).Just go to the site I listed, great guy.I've played with the larger Becker recently. They are well made and I liked the ergonomics. The various Kukris are very good. One brand is actually forged from old Mercedes -Benz leaf springs! I don't have a need for a big knife, but the quality is there finally.

SERENDIPITY! The owner of cold steel (headquartered here in Ventura) just issued a smaller version of the bushman.I met him not to long ago at one of my jobs.I was carrying a SRK on a horsetrailer lot full of spydercos and mentioned a small bushman would be nice.

That would be really nice, but I think that the Puuko is the best bet. Probably the most underrated knife on the planet. When a bunch of knives are available, it's amazing how you unconciously gravitate to a Pukko!
