In light of recent events, the following caught my eye:

Should the worst ever happen, and the emergency services need to contact someone on your behalf, would you want to make it easier for them ?

We all have our other halves or 'next of kin' stored on our mobiles, but how can they differentiate quickly, who to contact ??

Have you heard of ICE ?

"Home" is how our home # is flagged in my cell phone. However, I chose a different approach to notification. it was thoroughly discussed in this thread last year: Emergency Info Card thread

I still carry mine; I need to update my meds list, & review my wife's card, but the fundamentals remain the same.

ICE is interesting, but not universally known. How familiar a first responder (Police, Fire, EMS or even a good Samaritan) would be is questionable in my area. The card is clearly labeled, eye-catching (visible when viewing my driver's license), & does not require batteries. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

In addition to the contact information I carry in my wallet, I made up a set of dog tags for my wife and I that I got through Dogtagsoneline.com. It contains name, address, phone number, religion, NKA (No Known Allergies), doctor's name and phone number. My dogs also have special tags with similar information.

I cannot answer for the other EMS providers out there, but we generally leave emergency contact attempts to Law Enforcement.

It is spreading.

Washington Post Story

I was surprised that Homeland Security would not comment because it was not their idea. I would have thought that they would have had a comment ready since the story was in the city newspaper. I would seem to me that they would encourage anything that would make contacting next of kin easier since they already have forms & cards on the gov. website.
