It started with the Ritter Mini. Then a knifeforum member began collecting SAKs and knives for troops in Iraq. I knew I had a few knives lying around that would see better use in Iraq. So I went around the house, hunting closets, safes, cars, etc. and collected everything I have related to survival, 1st Aid, knives, etc. Holy crap! My pool table is covered. I'll be breaking it down into categories, such as 1st Aid, fire, shelter, tools, containers, etc.

I figure I need one good car kit, that can easily transfer from my car to my wife's van. Plus a smaller kit for her van, which would contain anything she's capable of using and perhaps some tools a "good semeritan" could help with. A field kit for hunting, an EDC/office kit, and lastly a home kit.

Having the young ones ranging from 13 years to 3 weeks old, makes it especially challenging. So that's my plan for next week. No boob tube for me.

I found the same when I first started to be "prepared" I bougght a bunch of stuff then it all got scattered and lost. I rethought my plan and started making an EDC kit and BOB one thing at a time, carefully selecting each item and how it could be used and where it would be kept and slowly over a couple years have built some good kit. Take a slow approach and make being prepared a lifestyle not just a kit with a bunch of stuff thrown in. Sell, give away most of the tiems you have found but one of each and choose that one item carefully, then slowly add to it. Sometimes I add a couple things in a month, sometimes I go 6 months before adding something to a kit because it takes that long to add something I may truely use.

Good idea --

Get stuff organized into kits, update and distribute.

Great to help out others with the extras that build up. It's a good idea to go thru all the kits and see what can be upgraded or changed. With BOBs & FAKs & SAKs in the vehicles for everyone + EDC and outdoor PSK & FAK it does require some organization. Always learning something here and I try to incorperate that into the kits and overall plan.

It seems we all need:

Pocket PSK stuff
Backpack PSK/BOB
Car survival kit
Shelter in place/home survival supplies
