Anybody carry hard candy in their bug out bag? What kind and how much? I know some pocket survival kits have a piece or two of hard candy thrown in if there is room, but what do you pick for your kits?

In my big bag, I have a small bag of root beer barrels and a small back of watermelon drops. Comfort food for me. Oh, and a thing of altoids. Mercy for anyone who has to be around my halitosis.

They also all make nifty trade items, just like a pack of cigarrettes and a couple of books of paper matches. IF I ever, for some freakish reason, have to fall back from something so far I'm in a shelter, I don't want my neighbor going psycho over a nic-fit.

I like to carry the Altoids (round metal can of citrus sours - not the mints) in my BOB. Plus, I like the idea of the small metal container. Been experimenting with using one for a minimalist PSK, but I'm finding the round shape is actually a bit akward to fill efficiently. I also have two each in the kids' bug-out/camping survival fanny packs. My children really enjoy them, so they are there for comfort, as much for some emergency sugar (dual-use, sort of). Trouble is they tend to "test" them once in a while so I need to replenish every few monts, but it's at least worth it getting them to pay attention to their packs every now and again.

Jolly Ranchers are the bomb!!! No way you can chew them, so they last longer, and they taste good. I can only take so much mint at one time.

Funny you should mention sweets. I never touch 'em. I'm a salt guy. I have boullion in my kits. If I could have an onion in there I'd probably pack that (with some garlic!).

My Man! Don't forget the Tabasco to eat on your jerky.

You can get quality dehydrated, vaccume packed garlic and onion from a gourmet food catalog. Just as powerful as the origionals, but expensive. If you feel the need, you can get jarred, chopped garlic of decent quality from most grocery stores, but it is heavy and messy, and if the glass breaks...

Well, no one will mess with it, and they will give you plenty of space. :P

Thanks for the tip. A few spices make my chipmunk cassarole soo much more palatable! <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
