I opened up my BOB today for the periodic inventory and food / water switch out and found that my BOB was sadly lacking - I had apparently forgotten to add some things and thought it was complete - glad I did the inventory! Anyone else ever have some unpleasant surprises upon checking your BOBs?

I do a yearly check to replace items* the expire ( meds, h20 tablets, sunscreen) and have only discovered melted candles and foodstuffs.

Found the Ozarka water bottles had something growing in them. Time to replace, definitely! Also realized that we have nothing for the cat we adopted last year. Now we do!

I am starting to actually type up an inventory for my kits and keeping it with them. I rework them too often for anything to go bad. I think that is a good thing!

I keep a spreadsheet inventory with links to scanned receipts of the items in the BOBs. Each spiring and fall is a good time to pull everything out and double check to make sure nothing is missing and replace anything that needs replaced.

Perhaps the growth could be considered an extra food item?

I change my smoke detector batteries and check my emergeny supplies when we change the clocks.

I have a inventory of each kit attached as a tag on each kit and that also lists any expiration dates of dated items like meds. At that time I update/replace my flashlight batteries also. My kits are closed with a tiny zip tie, if it's gone, I know the kit was opened

I think I check my kits too often. Every time I do it I end of spending hours (and often a few $$ also) redoing everything.
