Yup. Season's off to a quick start.

Time to go to Yellow Alert.... fill water / gas cans, top off the food, equipment checks, (re)pack evac bag and... wait.

Unless it's a direct hit or we get tornado damage, my experience so far has been that a hurricane mostly just disrupts normal everyday life. Gas shortages, food and water shortages (no power, roads blocked, can't deliver stuff). If you can have enough stuff so that you don't have to leave the house for a week or two, hurricanes don't have to be scary. Just really, really annoying.

Yeah, time to check the stuff. With all the earthquakes recently and fire season upon us. Upgraded my parents BOB's last visit and upgraded the multi tool in my wife's car BOB. Charged the lanterns and hand held scanners and have a few more checks to do.

I bet the folks in Florida are all prepared. However, if it comes here to Houston, the aftermath is gonna be UGLY! Seems like nobody's prepared, 'cept of course for the southeast Texas members on this forum. BTW...tire repair kits are a must have for after the storm. You will get lots of flats with all the debris around. A real problem for the emergency services vehicles after Andrew.

Blacktop, that's one thing I tried to impress upon everyone after Charlie hit. There's no reason not to have 4 (yeah that's right 4) cans of fix-a-flat or slime for each vehicle. If you have to be out on the road before, during, or after a storm noone's going to be able to give you a tow or sell you a tire.

Most people forget that and I'm glad you reminded me and everyone else.

PS I've got a baaaad feeling this storm is going to hit me. <img src="/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

#1 Have a full size spare tire to start with.
#2 have a working jack and lug wrench and a pipe to extend the lug wrench handle for when you get new tires and the garage/tire store puts the lug nuts on way too tight (I don't care if they rotate your tires for free, do it your self, it will save you someday)
#3) tire plug kit and 12v compressor and pressure gauge should be standard equipment in a vehicle kit

Hey thanks, I appreciate it. Just standing by.....

At the end of the day, chances are that the storm is going to hit *somebody* on the gulf coast. Hopefully it will die out before that happens though. [fingers crossed/]
