Nice kit. You've covered all the basics and then some. Any suggestion that anyone could make to that kit (pry bar etc) would be trivial. Do you carry the basics as well? Like jumper cables for example?
All and all I would say you're doing well, as long as you can always get to your truck. Maybe for your second post you could list what you carry on your person on a daily basis.

1 Pen flare kit w/ 3 flares Pen flares are not legal in the U.S. That piques my curiosity. Where are you located? -- Craig

I know they're legal in Canada. I know they're illegal anywhere in my area, which is Pennsylvania. So maybe it's the densely populated eastern states where the pen flares are not welcome.

Since when are pen flares illegal in the U.S.??? Olin will sell them to you all day long, not even a problem shipping... you must have a local law problem.

Strange I can only reply to some posts but not others. You should add some tools, IMHO your more likely to be stranded due to a flat tire or other mechanical problem than need a lot of the survival gear. I also broke my gear down into separate smaller boxes/bags so the loss/theft of one won't loose everything. Mine is organized as follows: - Under the passenger seat is a first aid kit, usual basics there, bandages, pills, etc - Under drivers seat is a BOB of sorts, Leatherman wave, flashlight radio, spare batteries, some more first aid stuff - Glove box, flashlight, spare batteries, maps - under rear seat: tie down straps for loads, jumper cables, pipe to extend lug wrench, wrench roll with 10mm through 24mm wrenches, small tool bag with sockets, screwdrivers, pliers, etc, tow chain, gloves, - Under rear seat: spares box with fuses, bulbs, etc, 12v compressor and tarp. Notice there is some redundancy between the bags, tools are spread between two, first aid between two, flashlights and batteries are in two different places, etc.

I kind of like the idea of breaking up the BOB into smaller segments to prevent losing everything, but if someone has time to break in your vehicle, they will probably have time to go through the whole thing anyway. And in an emergency when you're not thinking totally rationally, you might forget some important pieces, even if you have some redundancy in the kits.

Probably classed as fireworks there. I've noticed that if I can by firecrackers, I can probably get arial flares and smoke bombs; If I can't get the crackers, can't get anything.

Craig they are not illegal in PA. I'm from there also and have bought them here. Where you might run into problems is. one the stores in your area might just be being cautous about the fireworks laws and don't want the hassle so tell you they are illegal to shut you up with out loosing your business. Two it might be that the local law enforcementfolks might be a tad over zealous. In fact I think PA boating regs require arial flairs in boats over a certain size. So how could one state law require something not allowed by another state law. Not if you get caught using them as fireworks and not as an emergency device. That is a whole different kettle of fish.

Gadzooks! Say it ain't so! Law enforcement overzealous in PA? Nah. Perish the thought. Can't possibly be true.
I know I tried to acquire some for my kit and was told, to my face, they were illegal here and would NOT be sold here. Period.

I will happily admit being incorrect. I wish I could remember who told me they were illegal.

Hmmm.....
They may only be avaible through a boating supply house, then. IIRC, they are on the Coast Gaurds very-strongly recommended list. It might be that in someplaces, you need to have a "master's liscence", or what ever it is called to command a larger vessel.
Dunno, this is just me sharing my guess. I know a little about larger boats- they are pointy at one end; the propulsion is on the other; and if the bottom is in the air, you have a problem. Small craft is about my limit.

Here are the Pics of my Truck Kit... Not included are what is normally carried in my truck, I post those when I get them done. Some of the items may be a little different than the original list and a few items have been added. This is the repair kit expanded: This is the First Aid Kit Expanded: This is the Kit complete in a Waterproof Bag, it is not the Bag in the description which is in need of repair. How do you like your LM Crunch? I think it's a great idea, but the reviews are not encouraging.

I've went away from multi tools for my dedicated truck kits, figured in there I didn't need to save as much weight as in a PSK/BOB. I see two of the three LM squirts, the wirestripped sofd at radioshack is quite nice even if it is overpriced, the migher quality machines steel for the stripper part is much better than the stamped steel in most wirestrippers. My truck kit mostly fits under the seat (big pic, dailup beware) http://www.ninefamily.com/images/im002266.jpgThe bag to the very right of the pic holds jumper cables foded up, behind it are some tie down straps for holding whatever I might be hauling in the bed, Black bag next to that is an Eagle creek waist pack which has tools, wire stripper, screwdrivers, socket set, etc. Green thing is a wrench roll, it has pockets for wrenches, some are bigh enough to double up so I have about 20 wrenches and a nice long 1/2" bar with 3/8" adapter for when I need an extra long handle on a socket for rusty bolts or to stick in the fan belt tensioner and pull it back to change the belt. Then the stock jack and lug wrench with a pipe extension for the lug wrench and not shown is a plastic bag with a tow chain and gloves. Under the passenger seat is a first aid kit and under the drivers seat is another eagle creek waist pack which is a BOB. I'll have to break everything out and take some pics. I still have a lot I need to add, still haven't added a good knife, need better first aid kit, store some food/water, etc. Have a big tarp in the bed but I want to get a larger one and some rope so I could make a shelter if needed.

Ive done the same, put together a small kit from the three squirts, trying to find the perfect little pouch with pockets the right size for them.
