So, I've been a GPS nut for many years. I've had all kinds of GPS gear
and I enjoy goecaching. I brought GPS mapping to the Fire Company I
run with and I have done all sorts of interesting work with GPS in
emergency services planning and operations.
When my friend Tommy opened an online store to sell GPS equipment
several years ago, I gave him some free advice and he and a friend got
going on a Yahoo! Store.
Since then they have sold tens of thousands of GPS units with millions
of dollars in sales. I've been an informal advisor to his company for a long time now.
A few weeks ago, I bought yet another handheld GPS from Tommy's company (this is a bad habit I have. There's always at least ONE GPS unit within reach it seems - how many do I really need?), and
he asked me to discuss with him ways to expand the business.
Well, one thing led to another, and soon I was spouting off about the "great
underserved public safety middle-market" and how higher-end consumer GPS equipment can do 85% of what the ultra-expensive custom GPS/GIS systems do- if only you were selling to the right folks - with the right sales person.
One thing led to another, and as of today (Friday July 1), I'm the Public Safety Sales director (a sales rep) for his company, selling GPS and Marine Navigation equipment to Fire,Police, EMS and other Public Safety organizations (as well as any "Equipped" folks out there who might be interested)
I'm Independent, commission-based and this is a very, very cool job for me.
The web site is
www.gpsexplorer.com and I will be setting up a special section for public safety on that site over the next week. In the meantime, if you buy from the site, consider putting the coupon code "mtf" in and I'll get my comission that way.
So if you need or want GPS stuff, or need to know what's right for your BOB, your SAR mission, your fire department or your ambulance, or even if you're not a cop or firefighter or ems or park ranger, let me know.
Use my real email address -
martin@focazio.com - or give me a call - 610-847-1118 and I'll set you up.
Also, if you have friends or family in public safety, and want
to give me a lead for a nice multi-unit sale, I'd be really really happy, and so would my wife and kids.
(P.S. I asked Doug Ritter if it was OK to post this message before I did, and he said it was OK - I know normally advertising is not permitted)
