Searched, didn't find anything. Surprising, really.

Anyone tried one of these? The recent MRE post reminded me that I'd like to have something a little better tasting than an MRE. These look like you could eat 'em for regular meals instead of just emergencies.

They sure look tastey. I think someone (other than me) needs to try them and write review. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Check these out... I think I actually saw this on Food Network. It's supposed to be higher quality backpacking food. It would work just as well for hurricanes. And check out the selection! The desserts and breakfasts especially (the instant stuff, not the inferno self heating meals).

I tried some Heatermeals a few years ago, not sure if they were this exact brand. They tasted OK, but they were expensive and had about half of the amount of food you'd expect. They had quite a variety of menus and the did heat up REAL well.
The packaging was not as sturdy as it could be for storage.
The storage life should also be checked.

There's also Mountain House -- I've seen a few of their offerings at the local Wal Mart, of all places. I might have to try them and see how they taste. Like AlpineAire, I think they cater to the outdoors/backpacking crowd...

Mountain house I have tried. Probably about 6 different Mountain House meals. Out of the 6 I would say that 3 were delicious and 3 were awfull, oddly enough. Now I basically buy the stroganoff or lasagna all the time. So I guess with Mountain House it just depends which meals you buy and what your tastes are like. They are all very easy to prepare. Just add boiling water and let stand a few minutes. That's about as easy as it gets.

I wonder what those taste like. They look to be worth trying as well.

I had some of these a few years back... about on a par with the average T.V./microwave meal, not hard to get down at all, but I can do a lot better if I've got the time, and they're a little pricey in my oppinion... all in all, if I were going to stock up on pre-prep meals, I'd probably stick with MRE's, I KNOW they'll stand up to some punishing handling, and, nutritionally and "filling the void 'wise, I think you get more bang for the buck. By the way, most of my stock is right off the grocery store shelves... go shopping and keep your eyes open, you'll be surprised at what you'll find that is shelf storable, reasonably priced, and TASTY TOO.

Heatermeals are frequently marketed towards truckers & other long-distance drivers. I've seen displays in the local truck stop. They're functionally equivalent to an MRE, in that you have an entree & a chemical way to heat it, requiring only water (in this case, salt water, but they provide it in the package) & time.

I've tried a few over the years, & I've still got one in my desk. They're not bad, as convenient emergency food, especially. The spaghetti tomato sauce was very acidic--Tums or other antacid is a must!
