Mac, You may post your tent maker's website. We have many friends who offer goods and services. We just discourage neon signs, constant plugs, spammage , garage sales and anything else that would interfere with the site's non profit climate of information.

Thank you Chris. Since I am new here, I have no wish to cause troubles..... I don't look at survival from the point of view with a air plane, since I am not a pilot, and I relealize this is what this place was, and still is, but that the site has allowed other topics for camping and getting caught out....

I like getting out, and making things for my gear, be it primitive, or modern. I like being able to go out in any weather God can throw at me, and I have seen some too! Still got all my parts so far....... I hate it when someone gets killed by the elements, when there is no need to do so...... I can understand getting caught with out what is needed, like say no clothing because it was soaked in fuel, and the temps are 0'F or less, but I can't see why folks buy the wrong stuff, and or abandon the stuff, and die........ it seems about every year folks die in the mountains here, and the rescue party finds a gob of gear later that was abandoned... I myself have seen SWAT in training from down south abandon their gear at only -10'F. it makes no sence to me......... Mac

Mac, a must read about lost people is http://www.nationalgeographic.com/adventure/0111/story,html#story1 this is the Nov'Dec issue so copies may still be availabe of the magazine. This is not a new phenomenon. The Franklin expedition to find the Northwest passage is a classic. It is believed Lead poisoning from early canned foods may have caused group dementa. What we do know is that the crew set off overland from their icebound ship utilising the longboats for sleds. One of the items transported under horrific conditions was the captain's massive desk!

I can't seem to find the artical for "Franklin expedition to find the Northwest passage " and the link sent me to a 404 error, what ever that is... Well anyway they did not abandon the desk LOL! I remembersomething from that I think... might have been on tv recently........ it is thought if I am correct the leaders went off in a fashion that was not tracable for rescue parties to follow, and the search started some 3 years later? i did not know about the desk.....Gezzzeeee

O.K. we're wandering into material better found in the campfire forum. I apologise to our British members for Hiker Don's ethnocentrism. In the immortal words of Col. G.A. Custer " Boys we've caught them napping! on to Little Big Horn and glory!" Poor planning is a universal human trait.

Apologies for a poorly articulated post. The link is about contemporary psycology and lost people. the Franklin Expedition should have many sites online. My information came in ( gasp) one of those book thingies from the 20th century.

Ah, getting it now......thought I had a case of hypothermia at the puter..... I don't always understand what I think I read either...... sometimes i think the method of typing ends up being read and taken the wrong way to..... I end up looking short, or arrogant, when I have no such intent...... the puter can be a cold way to chat... but like no other way I know of one may find common others to chat with. Mac
