I was just about to go to the shop to re-stock my supply of rice - when I read an article comapring white and brown rice. Whilst brown rice is apparently more nutritious it doesn't keep / store as long as white rice! Is this true? Should I stock white or brown rice? I would appreciate your views.

Funny story about rice.

I was going through some boxes that I had stored in an extra bedroom of my house. Inside a box, I found a container with a screw-on lid that was about half filled with rice. The rice looked and smelled okay, so I cooked a batch as a test.

It turned out fantastic.

Now for the interesting part - the rice was between 5 and 9 years old.

Dont know if that's normal or not but it's sure good to know.

Apparently the natural oils contained in the husk of brown rice goes rancid over time - mind you those oils contain some nutrirional value. However, the quick rancidity means you need a fresh source of rice all the time to benefit from those nutritional oils - that's why polished/white rice is so prized by Asian countries - loooooooong storage capability...
