Great idea --Packing some instructions is great as a calming influence, memory aid and to give another person info when using your kit. At $5 a set, I'd say its a good 11th item...

SgtMike,
What is that hard plastic case? I like the looks of it. Who makes it? Thanks.

That looks like the same deck of cards I bought a couple of years ago.
It's not apparent from the site, but the back of each card is different, so it's kind of the ultimate in "marked cards" (Each card has a different edible plant on the back, with a description of how it is used on the front, along with a suit and rank.)
You can play solitaire but poker would be difficult.

Brigade Quartermaster has Survival deck, East of Mississippi, and West of Mississippi wild edibles decks, they're all very good, I've gotten them all from one place or another over the years, then a few years back, they all popped up at Brigade, I'd highly reccommend them all, but especially the wild plant cards, NOTE though, they're not playing cards, just a compact, VERY good info source for foraging (info on use/prep on one side, coler photo on the other).

Another good set of cards is from the Sierra Club, it's a set of survival questions with answers on the back of each card. I picked up a set for my boy at REI: http://www.rei.com/online/store/ProductD...ory_rn=10574082

If these are the cards I think they are then it's a lot of cut and paste from the FM 21-76 multi service manual. If thats the case then it's good solid info that has been successfully helping people stay alive for many years.

I finally got around to opening up the Wild Cards that I ordered and I can heartily recommend them--especially for people, like me, whose knowledge of edible wild plants extends no farther than the dandelion. The photos on the front of the cards are very clear and include a detail drawing along with a rough habitat range. The backside lists plant characteristics, cautions (if any), and a list of which portions are edible and how best to prepare them. If a plant has any medicinal uses this is listed as well. It is well worth the $9.00 especially for a neophyte. I'm taking the deck with me elk hunting this weekend to see if I can expand my knowledge a bit. Regards, Vince
