90% of my time in the outdoors is spent in one of two environments:
1. East Texas - Hot and humid with lots of vegetation (i.e. thick woods).
2. West Texas - Hot and arid..almost dessert-like. (mostly cactus, mesquite, yucca, small cedars, etc).
I have one small personal kit (and a set of knowledge and well-practiced skills) that will serve me as well as anything (that will fit in my pocket) in either of these environments. In the winter in Texas I do make one change to that kit with is that I add a Storm Shelter Instant Pocket Tent so that I can aquire better shelter, faster.
Now, for that other 10% of the time when I am in a drastically different environment (like when I go on my annual 7-10 day December vacation to the Sierra Nevada Mnts) to absolutely do either modify my existing kit a lot or create a new kit all-together so I have a kit specific to my environment.
