Has anybody noticed that the standard too-small, usually too-crappy-to-be- useful stone pockets that come on many fixed blade sheaths is the perfect size to hold a Leatherman Micra?

That little observation has cost me about $100.00 so far.

Good point and whats even better is that this means it will probably also nicely hold the LM Squirt P4 which I personally much prefer over the micra. <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

And with the Squirt P4 you'll still havea crappy-way-too-small sharpener in the form of a tiny metal file.

I've never tried, but what about using a diamond-surfaced file? It supposedly works, although I'm not sure about the quality of the blade.

If it does work, and the pouch on the sheath is large enough, you could put in a micra or a p4, along with one of the skinnier diamond file sets from commandoproducts.com - I got one of thier screw driver sets from radiohack and I'm pretty impressed. At the very least, it could be tucked into a pouch with a full sized multitool.

If it doesn't fit as is, I seem to remember seeing someone offereing diamond-surfaced needle files online, I think maybe widget supply. Trim down the stem a little, maybe, and you are good to go.

Diamond files work well on knives. Some may say too well in fact. A diamond file that will be used on a knife on a regular basis should probably (IMHO) be as fine as possible so as to not remove too much metal from the blade during sharpening. Of course in an emergency situation just about any metal file (diamond or otherwise) is going to be effective enough in sharpening a dull knife.

The top one is the guy I was thinking of. 4" long closed, and about 5/16" or so at the widest.

I don't have this item, but I have one of thier little screwdriver sets and one of the pin drills that I've been carrying semi-edc for a couple of weeks. Those are feather light, and so far they've held up fine even during some pretty decent usage for what they are.

I think these are the guys who made the tools that were in County Comm's precission tool kit. (Havent' seen it at thier website for a few weeks.) The next person I hear say that something they got at CC was junk will be the first.

RadioShack carries mini screw driver, mini drill sets that look like the ones CC has.
