I'm looking for a personal stainless steel or ceramic EDC nailfile (without integrated nail clippers) that is small enough to be kept either on your keyring, in your wallet, or in your pocket, perhaps in a case of some sort. Any ideas?

Craig,

You may want to try your local "Bed, Bath, and Beyond" Store. They carry a selection of "Tweezerman" stainless steel grooming implements that are top quality and very reasonably priced. I have seen a Tweezerman gent's grooming kit locally for about $20, and it had what appeared to be a very nice file with it - along with some great scissors, nail clipper, and tweezers in a leatherette case...

You might consider modifying a standard size file with your trusty Dremel.

That's what I could do. Or remove one from a pair of nail clippers and modify it.

For years, I carried a 4” Diamon Deb nail file ( http://store.cache-beauty.com/deb4042.html ) in my wallet. It is covered with a fine diamond dust. The pointed end is no more such than any other nail file and, of course, it can be ground off. This can usually be found in local beauty supply shops.

In my briefcase, I do carry the larger 1” x 8” file ( http://store.cache-beauty.com/deb5025.html ). It is much coarser and is, I think, for foot callouses and toe nails. I use it to quickly take down a finger nail and for those cases where one might want a general wood or metal file. This may be harder to find locally.

Will do. I'll check out the local store this weekend. My wife was pleased I even suggested going there. Gives HER an excuse to shop, too. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

To paraphrase the Tin Woodsman, "If I only had a Dremel..."

Craig,

I was dragged there kicking and screaming. <img src="/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

Pretty neat store - lots of gear possibilities if one looks around in there...

Several of the Leathermans (the Wave I know for a fact) have a diamond file included. It does an excellent job on nails, and other things as well.

I know that's a little outside your size range, but if you're going to carry a multi-tool anyway, the additional size and weight of the file is zero.

--As does the Squirt (P4, at least). That's almost the only thing I've used the file on it for.
