Wayne, with all due respect for your opinion about "technology", I would invite you to come to the US and go with me to the Mississippi River bottoms where the difference in a hill and a valley is six inches and all the trees look alike for miles. With your compass only, show me on a topo where we are and I, with my GPS, will show you exactly where we are, where we have been and how to get back with a minimum of walking. No compass made can do that. Conversly, I wouldn't begin to enter the big bottom WITHOUT a compass. The two work together and either is of limited value without the other. Some GPS units have an electronic compass built in but I still feel more comfortable with the "old technology" magnetic compass.

If you have trouble reading the regular compass then I would certainly say it's worth it. It will be just as accurate if calibrated properly, and since you can calibrate it yourself I am sure it will be accurate. Obviously in a kit you dont want to have to rely soley on electonic devices like this with out a good ole fashion regular eye straining compass for backup... but then I am telling you stuff you already know now. Yes I think it would benefit you. No need in straining your eyes. Save those eyes for when your batteries die and you have to use your old compass which you are already quite skilled with.
