In the days just prior to a camping trip in North Carolina, I received a new Peak LED Atlantic 1W and a new Peak Single LED Matterhorn. Opening the packages, I was instantly impressed by the quality of construction of the Peak lights. I played around with them a little just before the trip to make sure I had adequate lighting, and, after deeming them worthy of a hard try-out, I took the Peaks as my sole source of lighting. Here's the pair...

How did I deem these two lights worthy for relying upon? Easy. I hate to do comparison testing, but in this instance, I didn't have much choice. I pitted the two Peaks against the closest matches I had to them in the house at the time. Hence, it was a battle of the Peak Matterhorn vs. the Arc AAA and another pair of battles between the Peak Atlantic 1W vs. the Streamlight Twin Task 2L in each of the Twin Task's lighting modes...

Battle #1 - Arc AAA on your left, Peak Matterhorn on your right. Both armed with a fresh Everready Lithium AAA battery:



Arc was once the standard by which all others were judged. Peak has now taken that role. The Peak Matterhorn was a clear winner for useable light output. As a side note, I performed the same test tonight, the Arc with a fresh AAA and the Peak armed with the same battery it's had since day one. The Peak still outshines the Arc.

Battle #2 - Streamlight Twin Task 2L 3LED Mode on your left vs. Peak Atlantic 1W on your right. Both armed with fresh Everready Lithium CR123A batteries - note, the Streamlight uses two batteries, the Peak only one...



Peak Atlantic is the obvious winner. The difference was amazing.

Battle #3 - Streamlight Twin Task 2L Xenon Mode on your left vs. Peak Atlantic 1W on your right...



This one is pretty subjective, but my choice of the winner is the Peak Atlantic due to the truer light rather than the yellowish hue of the xenon powered Twin Task.

Long story short, it was pretty obvious to me that the pair of Peaks was outperforming anything I had on hand. They were clearly the pair to rely on. They've also become the pair I rely on for daily EDC, too. They're a great pair of lights. They've been dropped on concrete and asphalt, dropped in full water buckets, and the Matterhorn got run over by the John Deere Gator at work. They've taken a lickin' and keep on shinin' through. At 3/10ths of a mile, I was illuminating sufficiently to see Care taking the pic.
