Yeah, I've read the advice to stand your ground and sound big and mean with a black bear and to play dead with a grizzly. Boy, it would be tough to have enough wits about me to do the right thing. I suppose if they'd thrown sticks and rocks and grabbed branches and leaves and start waving them and doing the gorilla-type frenzy the bear might have decided it wasn't worth attacking.

That reminds me ... Just about the only reoccuring dream I can remember as a kid - other than the one of me sitting in school in my underwear having forgotten to get dressed <img src="/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> - was one of a bear trying to break into my house.
