Urban or Wilderness planning?

I've read many plans and kits here that would be great for a week of being lost in the rockines, but, let's face it, most of us live in urban areas.
People include bush knives, but not a simple screwdriver or fishhooks but not a bus schedule...mmm.
Some new EDC ideas for urban events, anyone?

You mention urban events. Something I am increasingly aware of is the danger of crowds. The History and Discovery channels have had some excellent past programs on crowd dynamics in an emergency. Be it fire, criminal act or earthquake as many, if not more people become statistics from being trampled. Recent battlefield research shows how the French at Agincourt charged into a muddy funnel and Queen Boudica's huge force was trapped between a tiny, but well positioned Roman Legion and their own wagons. If your wedged in a crowd of punk rockers slam dancing or a bunch of Celts on Saint Patrick's day in a pub it's hard to access either Photon 2 or great grandad's Webley I pay as much attention to exit access at public events now as I do seating. Fortunately the Hollywood Bowl is wide open and the crowd pretty gentile, excepting the Mozart groupies

Be very aware of your surroundings, and, like Chris said, allows p[ay close attention to where your nearest exits/escape route is, in case of an emergency.

I pay as much attention to exit access at public events now as I do seating. You'd be well advised to check the emergency exits aren't padlocked up, as has happened in few well documented tragedies. I'm thinking of the concert hall in the US which was set ablaze by pyrotechnics last year. The emergency exits were locked, and the stampede to the front doors resulted in confusion and death. Not forgetting Britains very own Hillsbourgh disaster in 1985 where dozens of football fans were crushed to death against security fences because all exits and entrances were locked, after officials let in more people than there was room for...

Most of us probably spend way more time in an urban environment than wilderness. While many of the skills are useful regardless of the location, some of the tools can be tuned for urban uses. I have posted these links before but I have 2 articles on my Urban prep. Some people read these articles as a list of kit, but my main point was to evaluate MY risks and plan for those risks with tools and skills. Each person will have a different set of risks and plans. Part I is my urban planning discussion and on-body kit. Part II discusses my supplemental kits and plans. I strongly encourage you to make a list of your expected or probable risks and plan around them. A bus schedule or city map and $10 may be much more valuable than a bunch of other items. Actually walking or riding the alternate routes home may be even better.

My EDC is centered around the urban environment I just don't talk about it a whole lot. My PSK, on the other hand, is centered around the wild and that seems to get more attention As far as urban survival, the best people to talk to are the people who do it every day- http://www.donrearic.com/homeless.htmThat's more long term, obviously, and luckily most of us will never have to be put into a position like that- we'll have friends around the city, or someone we can call. Course, getting stranded in an unfamiliar city... that could get complicated!
