Just thought I'd pass along that the Tilia FoodSaver "Mini" was available at my local Wal-Mart for the amazingly cheap price of $39.99 (even included a starter roll). I'm guessing it might be available at other Wal-Marts.

Here's a link to a similar unit, the "Mini+", which has an accessory port for sealing canisters. The regular "Mini" lacks this feature.

So far it's worked like a charm and was well worth the forty bucks. I've been on a vacuum sealing rampage. Heck, I even sealed up some food for the freezer.

Cedfire,

When I checked the link, I received a "not found" error. Do you also know if the mini has accessories available like the full size model? I might want to pick up one of these models versus the $150.00 full sized model, which I have seen at Costco.

The URL was pasted twice, just split it in half.

My apologies... just tried to go in and edit my post, but I couldn't. Here's the URL that works:

I bought one too at WM, only time I have been there this year too! I bought an extra roll of the bag material but I have had the thing for a month and have yet to unbox it! Guess I am not domestic enough for a kitchen appliance! I actually have not come up with anything I want to use it for yet. I guess I could try the food thiing, what a concept

I have a similar one, but have been disappointed by the fact the packets don't reliably stay under (relative) vacuum :
- using either the provided roll of bag material or standard freeze bags, half of the packets made get some air inside, after some time (even when just lying in my freezer – no rough handling etc..).
- I don’t think it’s the heat sealing which is not good, but the bag material itself, which leaks after a while or is too weak.

Anybody with a good experience/know-how on this kind of vacuum sealing ?
Good advices are welcome...
