Stopped by Springfields website today and found that they no longer offer the M6 scout in either version, rifle/pistol/pistol grip carbine.

Does anyone know what's up.

If you were thinking of getting one, you had better check your local gun shop.

I called Springfield Armory, and indeed, I can confirm that it has been discontinued.

This is a FANTASTIC gun, and it's a shame it's gone.

If you'd like to see how the M6 does against a menacing beer can, have a look at this quicktime movie I made for someone who lives in a gun-limited place:

Your next-best alternative for a survival rifle is the Savage Arms combo 12/Rifle, in a variety of calibers. http://www.savagearms.com/24f12.htm

I'm picking one up in 12 Guage/.223 or possiblt 12/.17 soon.

I can't believe that. I really like Springfield products, I just bought their new XD-9, I don't understand why they would quit making the M6...Great..now the cost of those that are out there will go up. Appreciate the heads up.

Thats a true disapointment. Just two weeks ago I was at the range and saw someone doing amazing work on the bull with an M6 at 50yrds. I was very impressed.

I confess I've never given the M6 much consideration as I already own a Savage 24 .22LR/20 Gauge. But I do think it's a shame that one more combo gun disappears from the market. For pure versatility you just can't beat it: .22 for small game, shotgun for birds, and slugs for large game. But the combos have always been more popular overseas than in the USA. I'm not sure why that is--marketing I suppose.

Regards, Vince

WOW! Now I see why they have disappeared from the gun auction sites! I guess I was really lucky, although I sold my first parkerized 22H/410 M6, I always planned to buy a stainless one. I just recently bought one in 22H/410 and some accessories from Springfield. I am set. It is a shame, it is such a nice little gun to pack in the vehicle on long outdoor trips. Folds up or takes apart and fits anywhere. For those that don't know the history, this was a rifle originally delevoped for aircrew survival when cold war bombers were in the air over the far north country 24/7. The military gun was 22H/410 and had a 14" barrel so that it could fit into a small survival pack in the ejection seats, along with a compressed down bag and lots of other little goodies. The civilian version has an 18" barrel to meet ATF regs for shotgun barrel length. When they were first introduced by Springfield, they sold for about $100 and came in 22lr/410 or 22M/410 or 22H/410. Somewhere along the way they dropped the 22 mag. They also added a silly "trigger guard" to appease the lawyers that like to sue gunmakers.
Hate to see the M6 become extinct!
