I just bought two of these for my kids backpack (they will be used for the chest strap), the whistle works great. I guess if you remove the clipping mechanisms and file it down, you'll end up with a really small whistle for a PSK or to put on a necklace. The whistle is not as loud as a Fox40.

I have to agree I saw these a while back and thought it only added function and didn't take away function. Still I wouldn't replace my Fox40 but nothing wrong with some back ups.

I recently bought a Kelty hunting pack and this was a standard item!

The first buckle I ever saw last summer was on a Kelty. Osprey Packs has a few models with some of the whistle-buckles. They are pretty loud, but nowhere near a Fox or Storm. Great backup though.
