I ordered a couple of these boxes
http://www.asianawest.com/mulstainstee.html last week. They arrived yesterday, 1 week to the day.
They are constructed of light gauge stainless steel, fairly thin but unless you use it for a step stool they should hold up to normal day to day beating around.
The boxes are not advertised as watertight and they are not. There is no gasket in the lid and they take on water like the Titanic. I might try a bead of Form-a-Gasket around the inside of the lid and see if it helps significantly. Otherwise, pack your gear in Ziploc or vacuum seal it.
The large box measures 6 11/16 x 5 1/4 x 1 7/8 and holds 4 cups of liquid. The small box is 6 1/8 x 4 11/16 x 1 3/4 and holds 3 1/3 cups of liquid. The small box and lid will nest inside the large with some room for small or soft objects around the sides. They are too big to be considered a PSK sized container but will fit in a cargo pocket or jacket pocket easily. An Uncle Mikes Sidekick zippered utility pouch fits the small box perfectly. That box/pouch combo will reside in my EDC daypack from now on.
As they are stainless, you could cook in these boxes without problems. The finish is bright stainless and lid could easily be used for signalling or field shaving without further polishing.
The cost is cheap compared to buying from overseas and the problem of water tight integrity should not prove insurmountable. Overall I would rate these boxes as adequate and I would probably buy them again.
Hope this helps,
Ed
