According to news articles I saw last night, the TSA will be banning matches and lighters from all flights, EVEN IN CHECKED BAGGAGE. Ban to go into effect in April (the 1st I think, and not a joke)

Right now they say that smokers groups are up in arms - that they will have to buy and dispose of lighters or matches in each city

Guess they'll have to change their name from Taking Scissors Away to Taking Lighters Away ... and the airlines wonder why more people DON'T want to fly?????

Hmmpf. This is another reminder of how narrow minded we have become after 9/11. The federal government says conducting background checks on all commercial truck drivers in the US would take years. Cedfire, you just don't understand. Truck drivers they COULD track down, but it would take some effort on their part. Hey, they can track down COWS. But when it comes down to tracking down illegal alien terrorists, they just don't have a clue. more and more everyday. Traffic accidents kill more people than guns (note: here in the U.S.)--shouldn't we have a ban on SUV's? (sport utility vehicles, most significantly larger that the average passenger car). In effect, let's get rid of whatever may offend our sensibilities (shades of prohibition), but keep that which does us most harm (cars, e.g.)
