In my BOB I have a few redundancy items. 4 ways to start a fire, 2 spark-lites, waterprooof matches,and damproof matches. 3 compases....1 silva, 2 on a whistle and a matchbox case. 3 whistles, aqua pura, Bota water filter bottle. 3 flashlights, 1 red 1 white led light from countycomm.com and another aaa light. What items do you believe that you need more than one of??

I recently went through my PSK and got rid of a lot of stuff that duplicated what was in my EDC. If my PSK isn't real small I won't carry it, and if I duplicate I lose too much functionality. The main item I consciously kept redundant was light. That's partly because I figure it's important, and partly because there's a relatively high chance of failure. I did include several ways of starting a fire too, that being something my EDC is weak on. Apart from that it was mostly based on size, and whistles and compasses are just too bulky.

ACR and REI make some really tiny whistles. Less than half the size of the Fox40mini IIRC. The ACR whistle is a LOT louder than the REI minis.
