The paracord bracelet is an interesting idea, but unless you are going to be wearing a bracelet anyway, this doesn't seem to make more sense than putting an equal amount of cord in your pocket. It just seems like an uncomfortable way to carry some cord.

You have a point. I generally don't wear a bracelet, but having 10ft of paracord in my pocket would get in my way, let alone 20 or 30. So when I happened upon one at a local show...I thought what better way to be able to carry 20 ft..two bracelets...always with me..leaves room in my pockets for other stuff. Just works for me. But as always, to each his own. I just thought others might enjoy making one and since it took me hours on the research I wanted to save others the trouble.

So you don't need 150 ft at one time. All well and good. That is just an example of what I have.

Sure if you pull it no belt but say take 10 feet double it a couple of times slip it in the loops tie a knot you fave a functional belt. But I made the belt extra long even for my larger waist size. So if I only need 10 feet or so I can pull that much and a bit more, cut an tie a finish knot. I still have my belt and some extra cord. And if I need a laong rope I have it.

The same knot could make a bracelet as narrow or as wide oe as narrow as you desire.

You can increase and decrease the number of loops to achieve tapers.

What about a hat band?
Decrotive trim on any gear? Backpack? Coat? Vest? ETC,ETC?

As a decrotive piece just use a few light stitches to hold it in place. If you need it give it a good yank then unravel.

A hunk of rope in the pocket. Could be a real PITA. Make a square mat that fits your pocket. Remember There is no limit to width.

A pouch.A sholder belt. I've even made a couple of rifle slings. Some can be used for the needed purpose. Then a few feet can be saved to mke a ranger sling so your rife does not have to do without.

The nice thing over that other knot is the speed of recovery. Un tie the ending knot. Which is a strand pulled through the final loop. Give a pull and it unravels. You don't have to untie every knot. Your knot took a coulpe of minutes to recover 10 feet. If in a hurry my entire belt would take less than a minute including taking it off.

Because it has no defined size the possabilities are unlimited.

I take it that you don't like the bracelet idea? Just guessing. It works for me and takes me less than an hour, while watching TV, to create. No fancy clasp, or bolts..just sew on a button. Doesn't take much effort and everyone who I've given one to enjoys it. To each his own. I just figure that you never know when you might be seperated from your pack, clothing, boots, weapon and having it attached to your body seemed to be a good way to go.

I will be hiking Devil's Den state park in Arkansas next weekend and will be wearing mine...just in case. Have a great weekend.

No prpoblem with the bracelet idea . But I think the Slatts knot is a better idea.

Most of my response was to answer your questions/comments. Plus some of the many ways it could be used.

Sure on his page he used a fancy clip. You don't really need it. You can start the first set of loops around a piece of paracord. For my belt I used an ordinary belt buckle.

And as I said this knot can be used to make a bracelet. It would be easy to incouporate a loop and sew on a button. A bracelet of about 10 or so feet would take about the same amount of time once you get the hang of it.

PS unless I get caught with mypants down I have my belt. As my pants are pretty much attached as much as any bracelet.

Out of curiosity, and to give me a head start in motivating me to buy the cord to get started, what diameter cord did you use?

How about a sweater knitted with some sturdy yarn? I have a sweater, given its not knitted with paracord, but with a sturdy stringlike yarn about 2-3mm thick. An entire sweater has a lot of "cord" in it. It leaves a lot for the imagination. People wear sweaters all the time in colder climates, and even carry them on warmer days just in case of bad weather.

I'm sure he used standard parachute cord, the mil spec 550# stuff that has 7 twisted internal strands. It's about 1/8 inch in diameter.

While you can use any size cord that floats your boat it is standard 550.

I used the standard 7 strand paracord available at most Surplus stores. I got mine through Sportmans Guide..pretty cheap if you pitch in with friends and split the S/H. I like the design and unlike the Slatts knot, it's not wide. Just my preference. Have fun making which ever design you choose.
