Hey, I saw this flash light, the Brinnkman Rebel 2D. Seemed to have a reasonable price and Im looking to upgrade to a LED light. I was wondering if anyone has had any experiance with this type or brand and if its up to snuff.

You can check it out at canadian tire if your not sure what one im talking about - http://www.canadiantire.ca/assortments/p...fromSearch=true

Here's a review
http://ledmuseum.home.att.net/rebel2.htm
However there are lots of smaller, better lights out there
www.flashlightreviews.com and the above website have tons of info/reviews.
My personal choice would be one of the Dorcy lights
or the UK 4AA eLED.
Flashlightreviews tested the runtime on that one and he stopped the test after 10 hours.
www.candlepowerforums.com is also a great place to look.

Brinkman makes good quality lights at a fairly cheap price. The Brinkman Legend LX is a great light. Also they make a light called the maxfire which is similar to the Surefire G2. These are not LED but worth looking into.

As far as reasonably LED light I think MapNut made a good suggestion for you to check out Dorcy lights. If your willing to spent a couple of dollars more here's what I'd suggest looking into Inova lights, the X5T and T-series lights are great. Streamlight is another company, the luxeon task light is nice. For EDC pocket carry Peak Solutions is a new company but has some nice lights the 3 LED Hi-Power AAA light with the snow colored LED looks like it may be my birthday present this year.

The market is hot with LED lights I'm sure you can find something to fit your needs. Which brings up the question, what exactly are your needs? We could probably help you out if you give some specs on what you plan to do with the light and what type of batteries you plan to use. Is it a pocket EDC light or is it a glove box or BOB light or just a use around the house light. Food for thought

BTW, I have the 2AA version of the Brinkman Rebel light. It?s a functional light and I put lithium batteries in it and it resides in my truck console. It?s sees limited use. The beam pattern has concentric rings around it and is fairly blue in color which is typical of cheaper LED lights.

Funny thing about flashlights it?s almost as addicting as knives can be. I've spent a lot of time at www.flashlightreviews.com it's a great source of info.

Good Luck,
Adam

Heh, i know how adictive these sorts of things can be. Basically I was just looking to upgrade my home unit to a newer LED light that could withstand the same abuse I put my (now aging) 3D maglite through. As for EDC, I carry the conventional but reliable mini maglite and now a garrity super bright micro light. I got the micro for christmas as a surprise and didn't expect much from it but was pleasently shocked by how intense the light was. That got me thinking about LEDs and getting some new gear. Of course, I also have limited funds and while the gear addict in me says "replace all your dusty old incandesent lights with LEDs!" the reasonable part of me says "its not broke, don't fix it", so Im trying to meet myself halfway here and get a cheaper LED soulution.

Anyway, thanks for the tips, I might hold off on the Brinkman and scrounge up a few more dollars for a better piece.

Dorcy 8 LED 2-C Flashlight I think this maybe a good light to try. A quick Yahoo search listed this light at around $30 (looks like the best price, others list it at $40) but I think they were on sale at Target a while back for around $20.

Although I see Brightguy.com lists the Inova X5 at $34.50 and the Streamlight 2L Twin Task (LED/Incan hybrid) @ $29.95. I think these 2 lights are much better than the Dorcy line. But they use 123 Lithium batteries. Surefire sells these batteries for 12/$15 if you buy them at the drugstore they can cost $5 a piece.
