The problem I see with this unit is fuel.The premise of any stove is immediate and dependable service.I carry a german Esbit stove daily.This is a fold open metal unit about the size of a card deck with 6 fuel tabs enclosed.It holds my sierra cup and easily boils 12 oz of fluid.You can of course add gathered tinder.If all backpackers start using this unit,I fear there won't be anything left to burrn! To expand on Chris's comment a little: why not try making your own from a coffee can. It might be fun.<br><br>

"coffee can" trailstoves(aka hobo stoves) are simple.You need to cut about three holes near both the top and blottom .This creates your draft. I like the holes close together for those windy nights.They will get WHITE hot,so use a brick or rock(not from water source as they will explode) underneath.If you clear the soil of debri,the heat will destroy all nutrients.I carry a "'fire cloth" for all my campfires.This is a small space blanket on steroids for zero impact camping.You will have to keep your hobo stove clear of ash buildup.<br><br>

I did some experimenting with this hobo stove idea a few days ago and I stumbled upon a good source of fuel. I happened to be burning my stove near a large hardwood tree that had been cut down by a beaver. Around the base of the tree was a pile of large wood chips that made great fuel. You might keep this in mind if you are in an area of beaver activity and need kindling.<br><br>
