Just a note, the Sony link says that the radio receives 5 weather bands. American NOAA weather radio transmits on one of 7 frequencies, so if your local NOAA broadcast is on one of the 2 bands not received by the Sony, you are out of luck. This is an issue to be aware of with all weather radios on the market; not all of them can receive all 7 NOAA channels.

I have a cheap "Realistic" brand weather radio from around 1988 that only receives 3 frequencies. I think that was all they were using at that time. I have always been able to get a broadcast with it wherever I have tried it, including mountainous areas. 7 channels would obviously be ideal, but you may find that fewer is still useful.

The five presets are for AM, FM, & TV. The weather frequencies are through a dedicated button & change through the seven channels with the +/- buttons.

Maybe that explains it... I haven't tracked down the problem, but I've been unable to receive any weather broadcasts in the DC area with the Sony. I have a dedicated weather radio that works just fine (if noisy), so I know they're out there.
