Today at 11 am I got out of Methodist Hospital after 2 hr oral examination by regional (REMAC) doctor. He felt I was good enough to grant me NYC paramedic licence. It's over. It took me a whole year. I took full time position in Brooklyn on 911 ambulance. I turned down fire dept ems offer. Next stop med school.

I just would like to take this opportunity and thank you all (especially ParamedicPete) for all your help, support, advice and words of encouragment thru the past year.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year (I'm working both holidays)

Matt,

Congratulations! Gee, for some reason, I feel proud of you! You decided to make this huge change in your life and stuck with it for 3+ years - now, you have this new beginning. I believe you will make contributions to your community and its people in the years ahead - making your corner of the world a better place.

I have a 30 year reunion to attend in late September out in your neck of the woods - a little ways up the river from you. I would like to drop by and shake your hand if the opportunity presents itself. And perhaps a congratultory beverage-of-your-choice...

I wish you a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Regards,

Tom

Matt:

Glad to hear you finally made it and I was just thinking we should all be hearing from you soon. I myself volunteer on the ambulance and have every year since becoming an EMT on New Years eve and New Years Day. You get the dubious distinction of receiving the last call of the last year and the first call of the new year. Again, congratulations, well earned and well deserved. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you as well.

I tried that last night. I went out with my friends and right before I entered the pub my supervisor called me and I ended up working 11 to 7...

Damn it.

Congratulations. Life has few tangible markers of accomplishment or payback. Having you and the many other talented people share them here counterbalances the SPAMM, computer viruses and the guy in Legos Nigeria trying to scam me for the past 3 weeks.

Hahahahahha... Yeah well but I think it's like that everywhere. But you could be stuck at Coney Island Hospital or Kings County, dealing with a totally burned out nurse and a doc who is up for 36 hrs...

Matt - Congratultaions bru! You seem so passionate about about your Interest in EMS that I'm certain you will make a brilliant paramedic.
I've enrolled for my BAA (I assume the equivalent of EMT-B) in january, so expect a number of irritating questions to invade your PM inbox:)

Happy New Year...

Congrats!!!

A word of warning about med school, or any intense graduate program. It can be hell on the family. I have quite a few friends, male and female, who's marriages have suffered greatly (some ending) from the stress of medical School. It doesn't let up until about the 7th year when you finish your residency and finally get established. Sounds like you would do EM, which is one of the toughest of all specialties for time and stress.

God Bless!

Good Luck though! If you want it you can make it happen, and if your family is committed with you, it can even be a great experience.
