Has anyone had trouble posting with their usual firewall settings? I use Norton's Internet Security and have had to disable the firewall to post. Even with my normal settings (max or custom on everyting) the 2005 version will allow posting without problems.

I have heard of problems, but don't know the details. Does your firewall have a monitoring mode, where you can watch the log, attempt to post, and see what kind of packets got turned away, so you know what to let through?

It does but I hadn't thought of checking it. Upgrading to the current version when it was released fixed the problem. Symantec (the producer) has had improvements with each new release and updates information like ad blocking and virus descriptions often. I was posting the info for anyone that was also having the problem with an older version

At first, I did have pb. So I would disable the firewall, send the message and re-enable the firewall.
Then, I think "well... I'm supposed to be working with computers, so, let's have a look at the settings ...." (after a few months of using it !).
And sure enough, a simple set up, allowing this web site to do what I deny to most sites and it was OK.
Now I understand why my boss has upgraded my salary for so long ....

As far as I know, I am using the same settings with 2005 version as 2004. I simply uninstalled 2004 and installed 2005 with the same settings unless it was something that I didn't realize I changed.

Bounty : I didn't understand your post.
So I re-read mine ....

ooooopssssss....

small mistake / it should read : "why my boss has NOT raised my salary for so long ...."

After all, he might be justified not to....
