For hiking I'm disappointed with the selection of cookware on offer. Pot sets are either too small, or they are too heavy, or they're made of aluminium. So, I think i have found the solution to my problem. I bought a plain stainless steel bowl, shaped like a wok, with a capacity of 4 1/2 litres, with a 1/4 inch rim. I drilled two small holes through the top of the rim, 180 degrees apart, and into these holes i screwed two small stainless steel hooks, the kind you hang net curtains up with. I then attach my commando wire saw to make a bail. I also took an aluminium pot gripper, modified it slightly, so that it would grip around the rim properly. I have no lid with this setup, but it's perfect for frying fish, and heating water for washing. It wouldn't be suitable for making a camp fire stew, unless you have some way of improvising a lid. Perhaps a section of space blanket would do, draped around the bail. Anyway, the bowl only weighs slightly over 300 grams, and since it's made of stainless steel you can use rough soil to remove any oily residues. The bowl costs a fraction of what an MSR 1L stowaway pot costs, and it's the same weight.
