In a past thread, I toyed with the idea of a ETS forum members get-together here in the Mid-Atlantic States, to socialize, exchange ideas, explore and practice some of our skills. I believe in that same thread I mentioned reading in our local paper that one of the primitive skills group had an annual meeting nearby.

In doing some web surfing, I came across the web site of both the national group as well as the Mid-Atlantic group (MAPS) and yes they do have a monthly and annual meeting in nearby Thurmont, MD. I contacted the MAPS representative regarding membership and if the meetings were open to others. He said there is really no membership, that they keep in contact via e-mail and that he would add me to their distribution. He also said most of their meetings are open to any interested person, occasionally having to limit the number of participants due to space restrictions. It sounds like a really great group and I plan on attending some of the meetings and workshops.

I am listing some of the web site links for your convenience. The web sites have a lot of valuable information and are definitely worth visiting. He also told me that their annual meeting would be June 8-12, 2005 at the Catoctin Quaker Camp in Thurmont, MD. With that in mind, maybe those ETS forum members in the general area who can attend the meeting could also have an additional get-together. Pete

You might want to checkout Meetup.com

I've seen a few adventure & survival groups there. The website is basically a place where any special interest group can arrage local meets online. Things from Atheism, Christian, Computers, I've even seen Headphone (audiophiles) groups.

Hey Pete,

I live about an hour north of you, across the PA line and would be very interested in attending a "get-together" and the Primitive Skills Group meeting...I'll be interested to check out the websites, thanks !...

Dang it Pete! Why did you have to arrange this AFTER I had moved out of the area?

That will be the first thing I will regret about leaving MD. Sure don't miss the traffic and crowds. Nice to be able to carry a gun here too.

Anyone up for such a thing in the great midwest?

Sorry Greg,

I didn't relize you moved . Hope you enjoy your new digs .

You could still come to their annual meeting in june . They say they have people come from all over the country .

Hmmm... Wife might go for that. She could hang out with her old friends, I can get dirty and set stuff on fire... Sounds like a vacation to me!

DEFINITELY count me in! If it's not during an outage (work), I'll be there. I tried to get a get-together up for last Spring, but schedules just didn't fit.

Yes, especially if we can confiure it so older scouts, such as our Venture Crew members, would legally be able to attend.
