Hi everyone, just curious...
Does anyone here make their own gear? If so, where do you get the gear patterns from?

Kenneth

What are you looking for?

I've built a cool alcohol stove and a few other items. I'm sure someone here can point in the right direction, just let us know what you are looking to build.

thanks

I don't think I have made any gear from scratch aside from things I improvise on the spot when out in the feild. I have certainly modified a lot of my gear though. What type of stuff of are you interested in making? You've sparked my curiosity! <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Hmmm.. I'm more interested in backpacks and hammock tents.
Hammock camping seems interesting. It'll be cool to try it out during the next scout camp. I'll be helping out at a training camp for cubs in december, so hopefully I can make a hammock tent by then.

Try Backpacker magazine forums. They have an ultra-light forum that can probably help you out. If you still can't find the info you're looking for I have heard a lot of good things about the Hennessy Hammock. Do a search on this site and at Backpacker forums.

Yahoo has a great hammock camping group, hosted by Ed Speer. You can join at:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hammockcamping/

The great part about the Speer approach is that you can easily (I mean EASILY) make your own with no sewing.

Lightweight backpackers are notorious for making and/or seriously modifying their gear. You may find good info here as well. http://www.backpackinglight.com

Here's a great site for lightweight hiking and hammock camping info:

http://hikinghq.net/

I've got a Hennesy Hammock and it's great for camping as long as the temps are above 40 degrees.
