Been lurking around for a while, listening and learning. I've always used the Boy Scout motto "Be Prepared", and been doing everything I can to convince my recent bride that living a prepared lifestyle doesn't mean a Burt Gummer existence. Slowly I got her to accept a small Altoid tin kit in her purse. I've always got a large, well stocked FAK in both of our vehicles (I'm a paramedic, vol. and career) In my truck I carry decent kit for 2, and have a BoB(stocking in progress) at home. The most help I've had getting my wife to see what a good idea all of this preparation was, was Isabel, and the recent weather we've had in here in VA. She started to see why I've been after her to come check out web sites(especially this one), and she is slowly getting more excited about going camping with me. She still packs a 2inch battery operated TV, But at least it's progress. The point of all of this is to see if anyone had any ideas on getting her more interested. I want to go slow, so she doesn't feel like it's being forced on her Thanks

ETS actively promotes our stated mission without prejudice to race, creed, age or sex ( well, maybe not the irish.) We have the prettiest and smartest ladies of all the 'survival' communities. I think they will have good ideas

I know exactly how you feel. My soon-to-be husband needs a lot of convincing, too. It's funny because he's the "Boy Scout" (very honorable, smart, and loves nature), but I'm the one who comes prepared!
My suggestion is to buy her a very pretty (yet utilitarian) bag or purse that she would LOVE to carry around with her everywhere. Then, stock it up for her with the stuff she likes to carry (makeup, hair brush, etc.) and things she NEEDS, like a FAK and PSK. A beefed-up Pocket Medic is a great item. Just keep any additional preparedness stuff fairly light and small, to make it more appealing to take everywhere. Seriously, Leatherman and plenty of knife companies have made such cute little tools. And Doug's kit is so light, even if I'm carrying my dainty evening bag I can still keep my PSK with me.
Good luck, and it's great to see another Virginian on this board!

My advice is simply to make sure 'you' have what 'she' needs in 'your' kits. I can't get my wife to carry a PSK (she couldn't carry most of the stuff anyway since she teaches in a public school with metal detectors) but she keeps mace, a leatherman squirt p4, a SOG Paratool and a well stocked "emergency kit" in her car and also carries a fox 40 whistle on her person all the time. The car kit is continually growing. I find that every time we are away from home and my wife needs something (allergy meds, feminine products, string, a file, etc) and I have it with me and readily available, then she is one step closer to understanding. Every time I provide an item for her (usually from the BOB I keep in my truck) that she needs, I then (if it isn't already there) ask her "would you like for me to put one in your car kit too?" Of course the answer is always "yes" and with each "yes" she is a little more prepared than before.
