Hi all,

I'd like to know if you have any experience with Sealskinz gloves. Especially in cold weather and although they sell merino liner gloves, I'm wondering if the waterproof gloves would be good as liner gloves under mittens. I have some difficulties shopping for gloves because my hands are large but they have different sizes and even a glove measuring pdf document.

thank you in advance

I have a pair, and I have found that they make my hands sweat quite a bit. I don't wear them that much, and I've never used them in extreme cold.

Being in the Pacfic Northwest where it rains a lot, I've spent a lot of time trying to waterproof gloves for warmth and/or effectiveness in wet conditions. While, a lot of my efforts have been to try to waterproof leather gloves, I saw the Sealskinz and thought I'd give them a try. I didn't particuarly like them. Basically, the "waterproofing" is a thin layer that isn't going to hold up IMO. Breathable and waterproof are not words that go together IMO.

What I have found that does seem to work (but is not breathable) are scuba gloves. Specifically, waterproof Warmer brand Neoprene gloves.

You can see a picture of them in my kit (kit pics are out of date).

I use their socks and my kayaking partner uses their gloves. In moderate temperature you will sweat and if it happens that temperature drops rapidly (as it is on the river) now you have your feet or hands freezing. Good fit on the gloves and socks is the must. You can put something underneath them but it has to be smaller and shorter in order to end right before the sealing bands. Lately I've been putting wool socks directly over the sealskinz and my friend is doing the same with the gloves. Wool will keep warm even if wet.

But they do work and are excellent product. I didn't have a problem yet but he had his gloves replaced twice because lining broke off and everythim he pulled out the hand it would come out. But the customer service was excellent.
