Over the years since I came to this forum I have been constantly modifying my tools and skills. I spend 50 weeks a year working in a large city with various "survival" risks. I have put together an article that addresses my On-body daily carry gear, primarily built around my wool vest. In the past I have posted contents etc of my kits here but they are getting out of date. This article outlines my current thoughts. Part II of this article is still in the works but should be published in a few weeks.

Thanks X-ray. This article is similar to some of my others over there in that I find I have written it as much for myself as for others. I ended up tuning up my various kits in the process of writing...removing some stuff and adding others. I was carrying my HAM radio in my shoulder bag until just recently for instance. Once my wife got her HAM ticket though I was able to purchase some new technology radios that are super light but with many more capabilites. This allowed me to move the radio to my On-Body kit which really makes me much happier.

If anyone goes back in the archives and finds my original posts on On-body and shoulder bag kits it will be easy to find many changes but overall the approach stayed much the same. (Still a knife and pen nut, but a bit more reasonable now I hope).

I discovered this site not long after our 2001 earthquake and spent many months reading and learning before doing any posting. This place has always been a source of reason, clarity and usefulness. A good many of the things discussed in that article came from Doug or folks contributing to the forum. I feel very good about this article and need to thank ETS for much of what I have learned over the years.

Swert, BTW www.eknifeworks.com has the German Army knife with the saw/flat screw driver. They are used by various makers, $6.95 I think. I got 3 as stocking stuffers. 1 was new, 1 was near new and SAK and the 3rd was very good condition. They all came with a removeable guard over the saw teeth. I'm a fan of the Allway saw also. I just spent about an hour going over the articles, thanks again.

Your vest EDC is great! It's good to be able to see how it falls in the pictures, as after reading your previous posts about the stuff you carry, I had imagined a large, bulky vest. Trusbx, this vest is one of my favorites simply because it can carry an extensive set of stuff in a relatively flat "normal" manner. Most vests marketed today have either too many pockets or the pockets are too big which while it allows more carry options does not really fit in for daily office wear.

My guess is that even the dry tin cloth version of this vest may be too hot in the tropics but you may want to look at the new Royal Robbins Audubon Field vest. It is in suplex nylon and looks like a possibility. It has more pockets but many are flat. I have not tried one on yet but mean to someday.

I am sure you all can find bits of gear that are unessential and ones that are missing....that is my whole point though. Your stuff should be based on your needs not mine.
