Hey folks. It's 0245 EST and Hurricane Jeanne is pounding the crap out of Florida. Yep, Another Hurricane.

Yippee.

Wahoo.

We are on FRS Ch 9 PL 14 in Tampa, just in case.

This has been a busy hurricane season. Just as a variation, we didn't get Sonny's this time, we got gourmet pizza.

That might be an omen.

At least this one is moving through quickly, instead of dawdling through like Frances did. And it's not as big. My mom is right on the edge of the eye-wall again. I suppose I'd better give her a call, if I can.

Here in Brevard County, since Jeanne was within 5 miles of Frances' landfall, everything was about the same. The only difference was a little more severe damage. Reports are that previously damaged structures are now in much worse shape. Little (less than 10%) new damage. More damage to infrastructure (landline phones out in Palm Bay, over 70% of people in the county without power after the storm).

Otherwise, everyone is taking it in stride. Doesn't seem to be long lines, no mass panic evacuation (probably because we've had to evacuate too many times) or long gas lines.

I heard some stuff on the news about people saying "that's what they get for living in Florida". If they're any Californian's or mid-westerners, I'll be sure to say the same thing when your massive earthquake or major flood takes you out. Nothing like being insensitive.

On another note, most building build conforming to the latest building codes survived intact (even with Ivan and Charley's CAT 4 winds). Definately make sure your house meets those, and even consider an internal "safe" room. Also, consider having a linen closet that would be big enough to store more food. The 72 hour "kit" seems to be about right for "survival", but I would put it up to 5 days.

Other considerations is that if it relys on electricity, have a manual backup. Well pumps that use electricity can't give you water if there is no power!
