Does anyone know if you can repackage the Katadyn MP1 tablets into a glass vial without threatening their effectiveness? -- Bear

I haven't heard one way or the other, but i wouldn't recommend it. They react to moisture, and as soon as you've opened the package it will pick up humidity.

One tip I've heard to save space is to crush them in the packet so it lays flat.

The way I figure it, is if you can repackage iodine which is nasty reacting stuff you can repackage MP1 tabs as well. Could be wrong.

I haven't done it but thought about it. The packages it comes in are quite bulky, but if you cut all the extra edges off and crush the tab to powder they take up a lot less space. A vial like Doug uses is ideal though. I am thinking about it myself.

They also react to light. If you succeed let me know because I use MP1 tabs exclusively and have yet to come up with a reliable way to repackage them without exposure to light or moisture. Also just FYI if youre going to try this do not touch them with your skin at all. I would love to get them in a small vial aswell but for now the best I have is the crushing method. Ofcourse even if you do get them in a vial, once you open that vial to get one out in the field then you have to use them all up very quickly as they will otherwise be rendered useless (atleast based on things I have read).

Edit: Actually now, after typing that reply, the more I think about it the more it seems that they are best in the packaging they come in not only so they arent exposed top light and water or touch with the skin but also so you don't contaminate your entire supply when you only need access to a tab or two. FYI based on my experience I agree with Flip that cutting excess foil off and crushing them helps a lot although they could still be packaged better. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
