Has anyone ever played with the screw-on reflectors you can get from the harware store, to see how far they can be seen? If it's a noticable distance, adding one or two of those to the outside of the packs that most of use wouldn't add any noticable weight, and might make us a little more likely to be recovered if we are unable to signal any other way at night.

From my personal observations I think you would by better off sewing reflective tape to your gear. As I drive home these days I notice that the snow stakes which use reflective tape are much more viewable from different angles and greater distances than the ones which use the reflective plastic discs. You can get adequate quality reflective tape from most sewing shops. Or, if you want the good stuff, contact Gall's or any company that makes protective gear for
Fire/EMS folks.
Also, if you don't want to compromise the integrity of the fabric of your gear you can sew the tape to the straps instead. I have done this to a couple of packs without much difficulty.

Chris
